Drivers gear up for swamp buggy races in Naples
NAPLES, FL -
The finals for the 67th season of swamp buggy racing in Naples is being held on Sunday.
Fifty drivers are competing in the event, and are getting their swamp buggies checked by inspectors.
We learned the format of the event is slightly different this year. Unlike years in the past, drivers are getting a second chance to race.
The event is opting to use double elimination.
Racers we spoke with are split on the issue. Some say it's too early to tell if it's a good idea, but others are excited for the extra laps around the one-mile track.
When we asked a 10-year veteran about his favorite part of the day, his answer was simple.
“Winning. I love the fans. My favorite part is the fans. I love people. I like to stir the pot, show them a good time. Not to mention, the races alone will do that because they are exciting,” said racer Bobby Williams.
The gates for the event opened at 10:30 a.m. and the race starts at 12:30 p.m
